นายมนัส สร้อยพลอย อธิบดี คต. กระทรวงพาณิชย์ กล่าว ว่า ในวันนี้ที่ประชุม คณะกรรมการ มะหมา 2 น้ำตาล มีความเห็นชอบให้คงโควตาน้ำตาลในประเทศ โควตา ก. โควตา 24 ล้านกระสอบไว้ เพื่อให้แน่ใจว่า น้ำตาลในประเทศมีเพียงพอต่อความต้องการหลัง เศรษฐกิจ ของประเทศเริ่มต้นฟื้นตัว และความต้องการวันข้างหน้าที่อาจจะมีเยอะขึ้น ภายหลังโรงงานต่างๆ กลับมาดำเนินการผลิตได้ หลังประสบปัญหาอุทกภัยในช่วงท้ายปีที่ผ่านมา มะหมา 2 อีกทั้งในช่วงนี้โรงงานน้ำตาลยังมิปิดหีบ อย่างไรก็ตามมีรายงานว่า 3 สมาคมโรงงานน้ำตาล ประสงค์ให้ลดโควตาโควตา ก. ลง 1 ล้านกระสอบเพราะมีโควตาน้ำตาล ค้างกระดานอยู่กว่า ๓๗๐๐๐๐๐กระสอบ การคงโควตาไว้เกินกว่าความจำเป็น อาจทำให้ชาวนาชาวไร่เสียรายได้จากการส่งออก โดยในเดือน พฤษษาคม นี้ จะมีการพิจารณานึกตรองโควตา ก. อีกครั้งก่อนแสดงให้ที่ประชุมคณะกรรมการอ้อยและน้ำตาล มะหมา 2 ดูต่อไป
